COVID-19: Christian Fellowship Tours cancels Holy Land tour
The Australian-based company was due to travel to the Holy Land with 42 customers in April but cancelled the tour when Israel and the Palestinian Territories closed its borders to foreigners on Wednesday (March 11).
CFT director Jason Cronshaw said while he was disappointed, the health and safety of customers was always the company’s priority: "There wasn’t really a decision to make. This is beyond our control."
The company would watch with interest COVID-19 developments in Europe, where three CFT groups plan to celebrate the once-a-decade Oberammergau Passion Play religious festival in July.
Other overseas trips to Papua New Guinea and Samoa and domestic tours around Australia would go ahead at this stage.
"Things are changing very quickly but we will give customers as much notice as possible about any changes," he said.
CFT, which offered meaningful Christian-focused tours for those wishing to travel with like-minded people, would continue to monitor the situation and take advice from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for international trips and state health departments for domestic tours, Mr Cronshaw said.
It was too soon to decide whether the cancelled tour would be rescheduled.
In the meantime, customers would be given a credit so they could book another tour when the COVID-19 crisis had passed.
"Like everyone, we are taking this situation seriously, but we are not panicked and we are not fearful," Mr Cronshaw said.
"As Christians we know that our God, the creator of the universe, is in control of all things – even COVID-19, and that brings calm and peace in times of uncertainty."
