Council has welcomed sixteen new members to its 2019 Blue Mountains Youth Council and thanked outgoing members for their service.

The Youth Council provides a formal arena for young people to express their views, consult and engage with other young people and contribute to the development of the Blue Mountains community.

Membership is open to young people aged between 12 and 18 years of age and aims to represent a broad range of young people from across the Blue Mountains.

“We value the voice of our Blue Mountains youth and the Youth Council is a great way for young people, from a variety of backgrounds, to have their say on issues that affect them and the whole community,” Mayor Cr Mark Greenhill said.

“The Youth Council enhances communication between young people and Council, and we thank all members who have taken part in the past for their valuable contribution. We also welcome our new members.”

The 2018 outgoing Youth Council members are: Maya Costa, Rohan Grant-Dawes, Alexandria Hinley, Caitlin Marlor, Benjamin McGrory, Paul Mukhin, Michael Pankhurst, Jack Prowse and Brodie Wylde.

Their work included the Youth Summit Radio Show, the Food Forest Community Garden and supporting the Blue Mountains NSW Youth Week event.

Of the 2019 Youth Council, six 2018 members are returning, and sixteen are new members. Council received a high number of applications for the new positions and selected new applicants by an expression of interest process.

The members of the 2019 Youth Council are: Meike Edwards, Lotte Weber, Lucy Bell, Lily Clark, Evelyn Harper-Marchant, Megan Hill, Eleanor Shortis, Sinead Winn, Izac Lettau, Ian Tjoelker, Maeve Magner, Adisen Wright, Olivia Eynon, Gabriel Frechtling, Andrew Gunn, Benjamin Mallin, Cornelius Appel, Sable Munro Davies, Elijah D’Vyne, Eva Roberts, and Camille Ghitescu.

The 2019 Youth Council will focus on an environmental theme, with the environment highlighted as one of the main concerns of young people.
