In conjunction with the planned upgrade of the Great Western Highway from Little Hartley to Lithgow, Transport for NSW have confirmed their commitment to work with Council on the design of an uplift of the highway median through the Lithgow urban area.

Lithgow City Council continues to work closely with Transport for NSW on the design of the Great Western Highway upgrade from Little Hartley to Lithgow. Council is appreciative of the regional and national benefits of improved transport networks on connectivity between the Central West and Sydney. However, Council also stands alongside the community in its passion and dedication for achieving the very best local outcomes possible from this project.

“I have long been an advocate for improving the amenity of our beautiful Lithgow”, said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “I know that the first impression made often lasts the longest. For this reason, I have made it a personal priority to advocate for the length of the Great Western Highway through the 70km/h section within Lithgow be included in Transport for NSW’s urban design process.”

“From the beginning, Transport for NSW has remained steadfast in their commitment to ensuring that the road environment is amenable to local communities and passing travelers, while also reflecting the character of the towns or villages that the road passes through”, said Mayor Statham. “In response to Council’s focus on the delivery of local outcomes through state and federal investment, Transport for NSW have committed to working with Council on the urban design through Lithgow as they upgrade the highway.”

“On behalf of Lithgow Council, I thank Transport for NSW for their commitment to this project. I hope that together, we can develop a plan that ensures our town gateways reflect our town and aspirations for the future. I look forward to communicating these ideas to our community when they have been sufficiently developed.”
