Ward 2 Councillor, Shae Foenander at Rest Park Springwood, is keen for parks and the public domain of Springwood town centre to reflect both the town’s history and its future.
Blue Mountains City Council will take the next step in implementing the master plan to guide the future of the Springwood Town Centre.

The master plan, approved in April 2016, provides a high level planning framework for the look, feel, vitality, accessibility, viability, sustainability and the town centre.

In 2019 Council will plan for Springwood’s public spaces – Manners Park, Buckland Park, School of Arts Square, the Hub Forecourt and Rest Park - with the initial step being to establish a plan of management for the town's community and crown lands to inform future use and investment.

There will be plenty of opportunities for community involvement in the development of the plans of management once the draft plans are endorsed by the elected Council for public exhibition.

Ward 3 Councillor, Shae Foenander, said, “We need to balance appropriate levels of development with town centre amenity.

“Our parks and the public domain of Springwood town centre need to reflect the history of the town as well as the community desire for the future of the town centre.

“Rest Park is one example of a small but important park that forms a vital green corridor between the town centre and bushland off Springwood Avenue. I look forward to hearing the views of the community during the public exhibition next year.”

The Springwood Town Centre Masterplan involved extensive community consultation and research. The plan of management for the five town centre parks and urban spaces will reflect the community’s aspirations that are documented in the adopted master plan.

Council will promote the opportunities for community involvement in local media and on its social media once the draft plan of management is on public exhibition, which is expected to be in September 2019.
