Blue Mountains City Council has successfully secured funding for the design of major improvements to the City’s cycle and pedestrian connections at two key locations.

The funding, through the Get NSW Active Program 2023/24, is to create design concepts for a new off-road shared path from Linden to Faulconbridge and a new shared path over the railway line on Station Street at Wentworth Falls.

“Improving cycle and pedestrian access throughout our towns and villages is a major priority for this Council,” Mayor Cr Mark Greenhill said. “By creating these connections, we’re encouraging our community to ditch the car, save energy and money, and get more active.

“This is part of our vision to improve the overall health of our City within a World Heritage area and we’ll continue to advocate for these improvements where possible.

“These types of upgrades help us to become a safer and more sustainable community, reducing traffic on our streets and boosting the amenity of our towns, while enhancing the health and wellbeing of our residents.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in helping us to achieve this funding for the design stage, including our State Member for the Blue Mountains Trish Doyle MP, Ward 2 Councillor Romola Hollywood and members of our community.”

The Linden to Faulconbridge project has been awarded $275,000 for the design of a new off-road shared path from the intersection of Great Western Highway and Parkes Crescent, Faulconbridge, to Linden Train Station.

For the Wentworth Falls project, Council will receive $255,000 for the concept design of a four-metre-wide shared path and overpass over the railway line to replace the existing footpath at Station Street from Plantation Street/Wentworth Falls Station to Sinclair Crescent.

The funding is part of the Transport for NSW’s Get NSW Active program that will provide $39.5 million in funding to 50 Councils throughout the State.
