Council launches campaign to help rehome long term shelter animals
Running from December 2025 to February 2026, the online campaign will spotlight one cat and one dog each month, focusing on animals that have been in care for extended periods and need additional support to find safe and loving homes. Adoption fees for the featured pets will be temporarily reduced to encourage visits and enquiries.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the initiative is?an important step in giving these animals every chance to thrive in the right environment.
"BMACC?provides exceptional care for the animals that come through its doors, but what these animals really need is a permanent home," Cr Greenhill said.
"This campaign?helps the community get to know these beautiful animals, by sharing their stories. This gives them?the best possible opportunity to find the right match.”
"These pets deserve their second chance," Cr Greenhill said. "I encourage the community to consider adoption, visit the shelter and help us give these animals the futures they deserve."
The Cat and Dog of the Month campaign will run for three months, after which Council will review the outcomes and?determine next steps.
December’s Pets of the Month are Jack and Tina.

December Cat of the Month
Meet Jack
Jack is a gentle seven-year-old domestic shorthair who was originally rescued from a hoarding situation and adopted but struggled in a home with other cats and was returned overwhelmed and stressed.
Jack is a quiet, affectionate boy who loves sleeping, sunbaking and calm spaces. He dislikes noise and needs to be the only cat in the household. Jack has chronic cat flu and while he is currently symptom free, stress can cause flare ups. He will always be a carrier, so he must be kept indoors.
Jack is vaccinated, desexed and microchipped. He needs a patient, cat experienced owner who can offer a peaceful indoor home.
Impound No: AC 258.
December Dog of the Month
Meet Tina
Tina is a bright and affectionate four-year-old Staffy cross who loves cuddles, sunshine and being around people. She is energetic and playful and will thrive with a family committed to ongoing training and socialisation. Due to her enthusiasm and strength, Tina is best suited to a home with no children under 12.
Tina is desexed, vaccinated and ready for a loving new home. She will make a joyful companion for an active household looking for a friendly and responsive dog.
