Blue Mountains City Council is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from artists and creative teams to deliver public art installations as part of town centre upgrade programs in Blaxland and Hazelbrook.

Planning for the upgrade programs is currently underway, with the aim of enhancing accessibility, community safety and local amenity.

Works will include improved footpaths, lighting, seating, landscaping and new public spaces, alongside opportunities for vibrant public art that reflects the Blue Mountains identity.

Council invites local artists to submit proposals that explore creative connections between place, people and culture.

Three separate opportunities have been identified in each of the town centres as part of the upgrade program, with artists able to express interest in one or multiple opportunities, which include public murals, sculptural and lighting installations.

Key details:

  • EOI opens: 5pm, Friday 15 August 2025
  • EOI closes: 9am, Monday 15 September 2025
  • Site walkthroughs by appointment: Thursday 28 August
  • Installation of artworks: March – December 2026

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill said: “These upgrades offer a fantastic opportunity to bring public art into the heart of our communities.

“We welcome artists who can help shape vibrant, locally inspired artworks that connect with the history and vibrant character of our city and further enliven our public spaces”

Council was awarded funding via the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program to deliver the improvements at Blaxland and Hazelbrook.

This is in addition to funding for improvements at Katoomba and Glenbrook.
