Council invites community feedback on Draft Cemeteries Policy
The policy is designed to set the standard for the sustainable operation and future development of Council cemeteries across the Blue Mountains.
It outlines what people can expect when purchasing a plot, how interment rights work, and provides information around fees, refunds and cemetery maintenance.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the policy will help ensure fair access to sustainable cemeteries in the Mountains for generations to come.
“This is about ensuring our cemeteries remain peaceful, respectful places for remembrance, while also providing clarity around important matters such as fees, interment rights, and maintenance,” Cr Greenhill said.
“We understand how important these spaces are, and we’re asking residents to review the draft policy and share their thoughts to make sure everyone is heard.”
The Draft Cemeteries Policy is available at here until 21 August 2025.
Hard copies and assistance in providing feedback are available by calling 4780 5000.
