Council festive season activities celebrate community and sustainability
The ’12 days of waste-less Christmas’ campaign is a new initiative designed to provide easy, creative and affordable ways for residents to enjoy the Christmas season in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “While Christmas means different things to each of us, I think we can all agree that living with more meaning and less waste is a goal we all aspire to.
“This new campaign is designed to help residents achieve that goal while maintaining the magic and meaning of the festive season and celebrating sustainability and community.”
The campaign is part of Council’s festive season celebrations, which include community carols, Christmas shopping nights and the unveiling of vibrant street banners in Glenbrook, Blaxland, Springwood, Wentworth Falls and Katoomba on 1 December.
Local artist Andrea Smith was selected to design Council’s festive season banners through an open Expression of Interest process.
“I loved working on the festive banners because it gave me the opportunity to celebrate the beauty and spirit of the Blue Mountains community,” Andrea said.?
“The region’s stunning natural landscape, its vibrant skies, native flora and fauna and its rich creative culture were a major source of inspiration for my design.?
“I wanted to capture that sense of place and connection, while also bringing joy and festive cheer to the streets during this special time of year.”?
