Council is calling for nominations to name the road over rail bridge on Blaxland Road at Wentworth Falls.

Council received a request from the Wentworth Falls Rural Fire Brigade to name the bridge after a late member of the brigade Steve Fitz. This bridge is currently unnamed. In accordance with Geographical Names Board (GNB) guidelines and Council’s Asset Naming Policy, Council is calling for public nominations.

“This bridge is a significant pedestrian and road bridge linking Wentworth Falls village to the north of the suburb and Wentworth Falls Lake,” Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said.

“However, the bridge currently doesn’t have a name and following requests last year for it to be named, Council endorsed the call for nominations at its August 26 meeting.

“So please submit your nominations and if suggesting the name of a person, let us know how they have made a significant contribution to the Blue Mountains area.”

Nominations must be supported with detailed information about the nominated person – in accordance with Geographical Names Board (GNB) guidelines and Council’s Asset Naming Policy.

Any names to commemorate a person should highlight how they achieved excellence in a particular field or endeavour of local, state or national significance, e.g. arts, science, health, education, sports or community service. The person should no longer be living.

Names previously presented will be considered by a panel in October 2025, along with any new names suggested. The successful name will be submitted to the GNB in November.

To nominate a name, go to here and complete the submission/survey. Alternatively, submissions can be sent to: Blue Mountains City Council, Locked Bag 1005, Katoomba, NSW, 2780 or council@bmcc.nsw.gov.au

The deadline for nominations/submissions is 27 October 2025.
