Construction to start on Buttenshaw Park Small Pump Track
The track, located within the Buttenshaw Park Youth Play Space in Springwood, is being completed as part of the Neighbourhood Parks Program, offering a fun and accessible facility for young cyclists.
The project, funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant, is expected to be complete by the end of April 2025, weather permitting.
“This is one of Council’s most highly anticipated projects,” said Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill.
“We know how much the community has been looking forward to the completion of this project. We’ve worked closely with the community, local bike groups and specialists to design a pump track that will provide a safe and exciting place for young riders to enjoy.
“We have listened to the feedback and this has resulted in design improvements.
“It’s the perfect addition to the broader Buttenshaw Youth Play Space project, and I’m personally very excited to see it completed.”
It is important to note that while work is undertaken, the pump track area of the park will be a designated construction site, and the public cannot access this area until all works are complete.
Once construction is finished, the community will be invited to celebrate the opening of the track at a Community Open Day, details of which will be shared closer to the date.
A pump track is a purpose-built, smooth-surfaced bike circuit designed for cyclists to gain momentum through a pumping motion—moving up and down on rollers (bumps) and berms (banked corners) rather than pedalling.
Pump tracks are popular for mountain bikers, BMX riders, and even scooter riders.
Pump tracks are great for helping riders improve balance, coordination, and bike handling skills while having fun.
The Buttenshaw Park track is designed specifically for younger riders, providing a safe and exciting environment for all skill levels. Council continues to seek funding for a pump track aimed at older riders at an alternate site.
Consultation has closed for the design phase of the project, and the community is now invited to share ideas about the open day.
