The highly anticipated Buttenshaw Park Small Pump Track is moving forward, with construction set to begin this week.

Located within the Buttenshaw Park Youth Playspace in Springwood, the small pump track will provide a fun facility for young cyclists.

The project is being completed as part of the Neighbourhood Parks Program, funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant program.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of April 2025, weather permitting.

“This is one of Council’s most eagerly awaited projects,” said Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill. “We know the community has been looking forward to this for some time and we’re excited to see it move into the next phase.

“We’ve collaborated with local bike groups, pump track specialists, and the wider community to create a design that will provide a safe and exciting experience for young riders.

“The small pump track is a fantastic addition to the broader Buttenshaw Youth Playspace, and I can’t wait to see it come to life.”

While construction is underway, the small pump track area will be a designated construction zone, and public access will be restricted until the work is completed.

Once construction is finished, the community will be invited to celebrate the track’s opening at a Community Open Day. More details will be shared closer to the event.

A pump track is a specially designed bike circuit with smooth surfaces, rollers (bumps), and berms (banked corners) that allow cyclists to generate momentum through a pumping motion instead of pedalling. They offer an excellent opportunity for riders to improve their balance, coordination, and bike-handling skills while having fun.

The Buttenshaw Park Small Pump Track is specifically designed for younger riders, offering a safe and exciting environment for all skill levels. Council is also exploring possible opportunities to secure funding for a pump track aimed at older riders.
