Completion of upgrades to Whitton Park and Leura Oval Dog off-leash areas
The extensive improvements have transformed these two popular parks into even more welcoming and enjoyable spaces for dogs, their owners, and the broader community. The upgrades include:
- New fencing to ensure secure off-leash areas
- Additional seating
- Linked accessible pathways for ease of movement
- Water stations with dog drinking bowls to keep pets hydrated
- Enhanced signage for better navigation and information
- A dedicated ‘gentle’ dog area at Whitton Park
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said he shares the community’s enthusiasm for the completed project.
“We are delighted to see these much-anticipated upgrades come to fruition,” Cr Greenhill said. “Our aim has always been to create spaces that are not only safe and accessible but also enjoyable for our community and their pets.”
“These enhancements reflect our commitment to providing high-quality facilities that cater to the needs of both our residents and their four-legged companions.”
Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, who made the commitment to deliver funding for the dog park in the lead up to the last federal election, said the improvements will have a positive impact for both dogs and their owners.
“While this was a smaller commitment financially, I see the massive social and wellbeing benefits our community get from going to their dog parks. While our furry friends get a chance to play and exercise, for their owners it’s a chance to get out, meet their neighbours and connect with other dog owners.
“I congratulate Blue Mountains City Council on being able to stretch this funding beyond its original plan to optimise the improvements.”
The project was funded by a $200,000 grant from the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities program.
