Community assistance donations are to be distributed to organisations across the Blue Mountains, as part of the Community Assistance Program 2020.

The donations were endorsed at the Council Meeting on 30 June 2020. The donations, totaling just over $7,700, will be distributed to 19 community groups.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: "The Community Assistance Program recognises the significant contributions community groups make to the quality of life for all here in the Blue Mountains and supports them in their continued endeavours.”

Wentworth Falls Chamber of Commerce, Lawson Combined Services Club and Hazelbrook Bowling & Sporting Club were all granted funds to assist with costs of ANZAC Day 2021 events.

Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum, Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans, Springwood Cricket Club, Lower Blue Mountains Junior Rugby League Club, 1st Hazelbrook Scout Group, Hazelbrook-Lawson Explorer Guides, Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre, Springwood Neighbourhood Centre, Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre and Lawson Amateur Swimming Club all received grants to assist with running costs.

The remaining funding recipients and their activities are: Blackheath Chamber of Commerce  for Blackheath Highway Action Group communication; Junction 142 (Earth Recovery) for kitchen equipment; Blue Mountains Beekeepers Inc to assist with maintenance of beehives & equipment; Together for Timor Inc to assist with communications & associated activities; Zonta Club of the Blue Mountains to assist with the purchase of AV equipment; Pink Mountains Youth to assist with the costs of activities to support LGBTQIA+ young people; and Belong Blue Mountains to support community development activities.

“I am delighted that every application received some Community Assistance funding this year, following endorsement by the Advisory Committee. It is always a priority for Council to support the local organisations that do so much for our community, but at a time like this, it is especially satisfying,” Mayor Greenhill said.
