Christmas Delivery for New Lifts at Glenbrook and Kingswood Stations
“Construction work at Glenbrook and Kingswood stations started in February this year, and I am pleased that the new lifts will be available for customers ahead of schedule,” said Stuart Ayres.
“Our less mobile customers and those travelling with luggage and prams will find it easier to access train services thanks to the new lifts and improved facilities at the stations.”
“With more people deciding to use public transport than ever before it’s great to see Kingswood and Glenbrook have accessibility upgrades.”
“We made a promise to the residents of Glenbrook that a lift would be installed and we have delivered on that promise,” said Stuart Ayres.
Mr Stalling welcomed the upgrade saying “this is just fantastic and will save me at least 50 minutes of travel time.”
The upgrades at each station include:
- Two new lifts and stairs to provide access to each station platform
- New accessible pathways throughout the station precinct
- New station entrances on the Great Western Highway and the corner of Park Avenue and Richmond Road
- Improved amenities such as a new ambulant toilet and family accessible toilet.
- A new lift to provide access between the platform and the footbridge
- A new, accessible kiss and ride area on Burfitt Parade
- New ambulant and family toilets
- Upgrades to CCTV, wayfinding and lighting to improve safety and security
On average, more than 1000 train customer trips start or end at Glenbrook Station every day, with more than 4600 at Kingswood Station.
The upgrades have been delivered thanks to the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure across the state.
The NSW Government has committed more than $2 billion through the Transport Access Program since 2011. To date, more than 470 Transport Access Program projects are either completed or underway across the state.
