In a year that has seen so many challenges, a free community Christmas lunch is set to bring some seasonal cheer to Lawson next month, Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman says.

Volunteers from the Central Mountains Christmas Lunch Fund are gearing up to host the free community morning tea and lunch on Christmas Day at Kihilla House in Queens Road.

“This wonderful event is run by volunteers particularly for people who are facing financial hardship or feeling socially isolated,” Ms Templeman said.

“It’s taken place at Blaxland and Lawson over the past four years, and this year event coordinator Chris Kelly is estimating more than 100 people will attend.

“It’s an opportunity for people to enjoy good food and company with no cost.

“After such a challenging year for so many people, it’s really heartening to see the community pull together to support each other in this way.”

Central Village Church has agreed to help stage the event, and Senior Minister, Rev Tom Melbourne, said he was very happy to be involved.

“As one of the local church ministers, and as the Chairman of Kihilla, I love that this Christmas lunch is able to run once again,” Rev Melbourne said.

“It's such a wonderful thing to know that this will bring happiness and companionship to a wide group of locals, and it's a pleasure to have our Kihilla Centre involved in supporting it this year.”

The lunch will take place on Saturday, December 25 at Kihilla House, Queens Road, Lawson. Attendees should arrive at 10.30am for morning tea with lunch to follow.

Donations of cash or food and gifts are currently being sought for the event. If you would like to make a donation, contact Chris Kelly via
