This year’s theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’ celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead.

“This year, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience,” said Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill.

“NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for us all to learn more about First Nations’ culture and achievements and commit to supporting the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders create the future they envision for their communities and themselves.

“There is a list of accessible and engaging ways the wider community can show their support this NAIDOC Week available on Council’s website. Suggestions range from watching documentaries, to incorporating native foods into your menu, or attending a NAIDOC Week event. I encourage everyone to take one of these simple actions.”

A NAIDOC Week Opening Community event will be held at the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub, Springwood, from 12pm to 3pm Sunday 6 July. Attendees at this free event will experience a Welcome and Smoking Ceremony, performance from the acclaimed Wagana Dancers, music, family-friendly activities, a Springwood Library display and a delicious lunch. Lunch is free, but bookings are essential. 

Council will raise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at 10am Monday 7 July at Carrington Place, Katoomba.

The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre is celebrating NAIDOC Week with free entry from 5 to 13 July. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions & Emerging, curated by the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture and Resource Centre, andNgurra Bayala (Country Speaks).?There will also be a community event starting 10am Saturday 12 July, with free family-friendly activities.
