Calling on First Nations Creatives
As part of Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) and on the anniversary of the endorsement of the Statement of Recognition and Commitment, Council is holding the first in a series of events for First Nations Creatives. This will be a chance for artists to connect with each other, and Council, and chat about how they would like to see First Nations artists represented.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “In keeping with the commitment Council has made to reconciliation, and as a city that values and celebrates its artists, this a great opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the First Nations Community.
“These First Nations Creatives Yarns will provide space for connection and help us find out how we can best support our First Nations artistic community.”
These events offer the chance for artists to speak about how they would like to see First Nations included and celebrated, particularly in Council-managed locations that hold space for creativity.
The initial First Nations Creative event is:
When: Saturday 31 May 2-4pm
Where: Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Katoomba
What: Mingle, yarn, have a cuppa
