Council invites Blue Mountains artists and arts organisations to apply for grants up to $10,000 for their artistic projects.

In its mission to support the arts sector locally, The Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust offers a grant program that’s open to art projects across disciplines, including visual, performing and literary arts.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “As a City of the Arts, we’re committed to nourishing our vibrant arts scene in multiple ways, with grants available for both individuals and organisations.

“We know that artists often do it tough and these funds can offer opportunities that might not otherwise be available.

“We consistently hear from past recipients that this funding helped them in a meaningful way, while they pursued their artistic goals. In some cases, the funds led to significant leaps in their career.”

The Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust was created to build on the City’s reputation as the State’s inaugural City of the Arts. The Trust administers the program, and Council makes an annual contribution of $50,000.

The Trust Advisory Committee assesses the applications and makes recommendations to Council on how the grants should be awarded based on their merit against the selection criteria of quality, innovation, capacity and audience engagement.

Past grant recipients cover a broad range of projects including filmmaking, playwriting, video, painting, music, dance, textiles, art-led sustainability projects and mentorships.

“With this funding, we aim to encourage excellence and creativity from our local artists and arts organisations,” Cr Greenhill said. “And to bolster our reputation as a region already renowned for our outstanding artistic culture. In turn, this will entice both local residents and visitors to engage with the arts.

“So, if you’re working on an art project that needs a boost, don’t be shy, we strongly encourage a diverse range of artists to apply for these grants.”

Grants are open toindividual artists/producers/arts workers residing in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area and not-for-profit organisations located in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area.

Applications close 5pm Sunday 4 May 2025.
