Brightening Up Lithgow’s Main Street
In the coming months, Lithgow will play host to visitors from all over the country as part of a visit from the Australian Caravan Club and the annual Halloween event. It is expected that these events will bring several hundred visitors to the area, offering a significant contribution to the local economy.
“It is brilliant that Lithgow continues to attract volumes of visitors from all over our state and country,” said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “Our focus, through the Lithgow Evolving Economy Plan and related work, is to both enhance the livability of this area for residents and promote the offer from a tourism perspective.”
“The Council understands that the road network needs repair and the Main Street infrastructure needs renewal,” continued Mayor Statham. “Naomi Street is being resealed, and $4 million has been committed to Stage 2 of the Main Street Renewal.”
“However, there are private assets along our Main Street that also desperately need some love and attention. With community consultation and design for the Main Street upgrade commencing shortly, we will soon have new footpaths, kerbs, gutters, street furniture and plantings. If we are to reinvigorate the retail precinct, it is important that the building owners also contribute to this spirit of revitalisation.”
In conclusion, Mayor Statham noted, “to achieve this mutual objective, I call upon local business owners to consider repairing eaves and gutters and give their buildings the uplift of a coat of paint. We are all responsible for the amenity of this town and I hope for your assistance. Please reach out to Council should you have any questions.”
