Blue Mountains Train Stations Upgrades

The NSW Liberal Government will make Blackheath and Faulconbridge Stations fully accessible, through the Transport Access Program.

Liberal candidate for the Blue Mountains, Owen Laffin, welcomed the announcement as a great outcome for the Blue Mountains community.

“I have been advocating for better access at these stations since the campaign begun, so that members of our community who were previously excluded can now take advantage of our trains, and travel across our magnificent region and city,” Mr Laffin said.

Mr Laffin said that he expected more details of the planned upgrades would be available soon.

The Transport Access Program is an initiative to deliver safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure across the state.

Blackheath and Faulconbridge stations are among a number of stations in metropolitan Sydney that are scheduled for upgrades, with specific details of the upgrades to be announced in coming weeks.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals are getting on with the job of giving our local commuters and visitors much needed facilities for travelling by train.

“We have already completed accessibility upgrades at Leura and Wentworth Falls, and planning for the upgrade at Hazelbrook is underway,” said Mr Laffin.

“For 16 years, Labor neglected our local rail stations. They also refused to upgrade the Blue Mountains line to the same standard as the rest of the network to allow modern, intercity trains to operate all the way to Lithgow. Only a Liberal Government is delivering these upgrades.

“I will ensure that we consult and keep the community up-to-date as these upgrades progress. As part of the planning approval process, the community and stakeholders will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on any proposed designs.”

Since coming to government, the NSW Liberals & Nationals have committed more than $2 billion to the Transport Access Program, which has seen 52 train stations upgraded to make them wheelchair accessible. This compares with only two station access upgrades a year that were completed under the former Labor Government.
