Blue Mountains Theatre Presents Joseph Tawadros Quintet
“One of the most impressive musicians to emerge in Australia … with a dazzling technique dispensing hair-raising tempos… His writing displays a real depth of emotion …revelling in a zest for life and celebration.” – The Australian
Joseph Tawadros AM is a 4-times ARIA award-winning master of the oud, a Middle Eastern lute. He returns from the UK to launch his brand new album The Bluebird, the Mystic and the Fool. Don’t miss what will be a thrilling mix of Middle Eastern, jazz, traditional sounds and contemporary innovations at this special concert event.
Joseph is joined by: Matt McMahon, one of Australia’s finest jazz pianists and composers; James Tawadros, Joseph’s brother, a virtuoso player of Egyptian percussion; Dimitri Vouros, talented clarinettist with skill in jazz, world and improvised music; and Karl Dunnicliff, the respected jazz double bass player.
“They are phenomenal musicians, able to improvise and play off each other as they develop fusion music that crosses between classical, bluegrass, folk and jazz. Never less than electrifying and always entertaining, given Joseph’s wild sense of humour and ability to laugh at many taboos, this was a sensational concert...” - Performing Arts Hub, August 2017
Born in Cairo, raised in Sydney and now based in London, Joseph is in high demand around the world and performs at concert halls, festivals and clubs in solo recitals, as a duo with James or in various line-ups, often with orchestras presenting his phenomenal original works.
