Community sporting club representatives from the Blue Mountains region are invited to attend a free Good Sports webinar on building and maintaining healthy and family-friendly club environments.

The ‘Strengthening Blue Mountains Sports Clubs’ webinar will take place online via Zoom on Wednesday 3 May 2023 between 7pm-8pm.

Clubs will hear how the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s Good Sports program can support them with initiatives around:
•    Role-modelling healthy behaviours for younger members
•    Encouraging a healthy, smoke-free environment
•    Supporting mental health initiatives and reducing stigma
•    Preventing and reducing alcohol-related harms
•    Making sure everyone gets home safely

The Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s NSW State Manager, Greg Howe, said the forum is a great opportunity for club representatives to come together and hear how they can be leaders in their community.

“Community sporting clubs are often at the heart of community and can play a really important role when it comes to modelling healthy behaviours,” Mr Howe said.

“Good Sports supports local sports clubs to set-up a better environment for players, volunteers, supporters and officials, helping tackle tricky topics such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, mental health and safe transport.

“We welcome all clubs from in and around the Blue Mountains to join us online and hear about how Good Sports can best support you.

“Participants will also hear about how their clubs can support the Blue Mountains Local Drug Action Team apply the Icelandic Planet Youth Model (which is being trialled locally), to help create safe, healthy environments for local young people.”

Registrations for the webinar are essential. You can register by following this link: Good Sports Webinar: Strengthening Blue Mountains Sports Clubs Registration, Wed 03/05/2023 at 7:00 pm | Eventbrite

Working with more than 10,000 community sports clubs across Australia, including more than 3,000 in NSW, Good Sports is Australia’s largest community health sports program.

Good Sports is proven to reduce risky drinking at participating clubs by 37% and has seen a 42% reduction of alcohol-related accidents among Good Sports club members and supporters.

In New South Wales, Good Sports is funded by the Australian Government and the New South Wales Government (Transport for New South Wales) and managed by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
