Blue Mountains sees huge boost to online delivery speeds
In a win for Blue Mountains-based customers, locals will be able to enjoy free next day delivery on orders placed as late as midnight, across more than one million eligible items.
The announcement comes one week after Amazon announced same day delivery across metropolitan Sydney and brings delivery speeds in the Blue Mountains in line with major capital cities like Melbourne and Brisbane.
Today’s announcement is also a boost for local business selling on Amazon, with new data revealing faster online delivery is boosting national productivity. Recent research, released by Mandala Partners, reveals Aussie businesses have gained an additional $3.9 billion in sales revenue from faster Business-to-Customer deliveries, over the last decade. And that across the same time period, online shopping has saved Aussies 3.7 million hours from avoided trips to shops.
The announcement is part of Amazon Australia’s broader strategy to invest$1.6 billion towards opening five new operational sites by 2026, creating an additional 4,500 jobs when fully operational.
Janet Menzies, Country Manager for Amazon Australia, said, “We are committed to getting faster for our customers and now the majority of Prime members across the country can rely on next-day delivery on more than one million items, and can receive items as fast as the same day in Sydney. We are proud to now be able to offer Prime members in the Blue Mountains, Canberra, the Gold Coast, Mornington Peninsula and the Sunshine Coast access to Prime Free One-Day Delivery building on a service that Prime members in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have been enjoying.”
Amazon Australia aims to continue expanding product selection and delivery areas eligible for Prime Free One-Day and Same-Day Delivery to provide more Prime members faster access to even more products, and Prime members outside of eligible postcodes can still benefit from free delivery in as fast as two days on eligible orders.
A new report from Mandala Partners, commissioned by Amazon Australia, looked at the benefits of fast delivery of retail products to Australian consumers and found that, in the last ten years, faster delivery times are estimated to have provided almost $350 million of value to consumers through improved convenience and time-saved. Online retail is driving intense competition in Australia when it comes to faster delivery options, and a previous report from Mandala estimated that households have saved nearly $3,500 since 2019 thanks to the price-lowering effects of
online channels.
