Blue Mountains National Park hazard reduction burn
This burn will reduce the risk of fire to the villages of Grose Wold and Yarramundi. The low intensity burn is being undertaken over two days to reduce fuel loads in the area.
The 175-hectare burn will take place at Wood Creek between Cabbage Tree Road and Woods Reserve Road, extending up the valley close to Grose Wold Road, Grose Wold.
The burn will begin at approximately 9 am Tuesday with crews continuing into the evening, finishing up on the Wednesday, weather permitting.
Smoke from the burn may impact on the area for a number of days and we thank our neighbours for their understanding.
Drivers in particular are warned to take care and people with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.
NPWS will be assisted by NSW Rural Fire Service crews.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
All burns around the state are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
People with known health conditions can sign up to receive air quality reports, forecasts and alerts via email or SMS from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
For health information relating to smoke from bushfires and hazard reduction burns, visit NSW Health or Asthma Australia.
More information on hazard reduction activities is available at NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Government's Hazard's Near Me website and app.
