Blue Mountains Musicians Support Micro Festival
Eighty-five applications were received, representing 210 musicians and 90 other artists from large choral and musical ensembles. The family-friendly event will be held in the Katoomba CBD on 7 April.
Blue Mountains Mayor Councillor Mark Greenhill said the response was a testimony to our musical-rich and talented community.
“This has been an overwhelming response to our own Live and Local event, made possible through a NSW Live Music Office Grant,” Cr Greenhill said.
The focal point of the event will be Katoomba Civic Centre Arcade, which will host two venues. There will also be numerous other venues in Katoomba CBD.
Council and the Katoomba Live and Local Committee have engaged Event Organiser / Curator Meg Benson, of Music Hunter, to match musicians from diverse genres with the participating venues.
Ms Benson said: “This has been a wonderful response from our talented community. It pleases us to employ 70 musicians at industry rates and we wish we could triple that number. We hope this is the first of many Live and Local initiatives in the Blue Mountains.
“We invite the Blue Mountains community to come along on the day to enjoy this free micro festival which will stimulate the local economy and gather diverse crowds. This event is quite different to the fantastic Blue Mountains Music Festival, so we encourage local music-lovers to get out to both.”

Bendigo Bank funded a Youth Music Biz Promo Boot Camp in partnership with MYST, Shelter Studio, The Live Music Office and Lona Logan Photography. The boot camp, an initiative of Music Hunter, helped Katoomba Live and Local entrants with their submissions.
