Blue Mountains Local on a ‘Pathway to Success’ with TAFE NSW Fee-Free Course
The NSW Government recently unveiled 21 fee-free support courses to allow residents to upskill during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rachel Callaghan, 22, is studying a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) and enrolled in the TAFE NSW Statement of Attainment in Medical Administration to supplement her theory with practical and essential administration skills she can apply in the workplace.
“Completing the TAFE NSW course in between university work was great because the course was flexible and meant I could complete the work in my own time and in a matter of weeks,” Ms Callaghan said.
“I work as an administration assistant for a local dietetics business so I found the TAFE NSW course useful to brush up on the hands-on skills and receive a formal qualification that will give me a competitive edge when applying for jobs.”
Mr Mallard commended the Blue Mountains local and said it was heartening to see her use this difficult period to upskill.
“It’s wonderful to see Rachel’s commitment to gaining the skills to achieve her career goal and it’s fantastic to see so many people in the Blue Mountains area take advantage of these courses,” he said.
“The incredible uptake of these courses in NSW shows the commitment of locals and small businesses to ensure we are as well-positioned as possible to adapt to the changing commercial environment.”
Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said there was strong interest in TAFE NSW short courses across the State.
“The NSW Government has responded quickly to the pandemic crisis, delivering industry-relevant, quality education to help locals better themselves,” Mr Lee said.
