Blue Mountains Grants Projects Given Certainty
Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, said if Labor was elected they would not delay important investment in the Blue Mountains by revisiting investment decisions that have already been made.
“This gives certainty to two important projects in the Blue Mountains,” she said.
“The Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise has been awarded $19,998 to develop research on post-school pathways for Blue Mountains youth,” she said.
“We all know that many young people leave the Mountains at the end of high school, and this will help put some data around the trends and consider the things we can do to provide study and work options within our community, or to encourage them to return, and be useful for economic planning.
“And it should provide insights for schools like Katoomba High, who did some terrific work in robotics in recent years, to better equip their students for the post-school journey.
“In addition, the Blue Mountains Artists Company has been awarded $18,000 to help deliver a series of events featuring a curated program of music, food and art across a number of venues and locations.
“This project is a delight, and brings together things we love in the Mountains – art, music and food. A terrific cultural event.
“Investment in community infrastructure projects like these creates jobs and boosts our local economy economically and socially,” she said.
Labor has previously supported programs to fund community infrastructure projects in regional Australia through a number of programs including the Regional Development Australia fund and the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
With nearly $1 billion lost to local councils through the indexation freeze of Financial Assistance Grants from 2014-2017, Labor knows that regional councils are still playing catch up with a backlog of projects that were put on hold during these years.
It is important that regional communities have certainty in the lead-up to the Federal Election and know that these identified projects have secured funding, even if the paperwork isn’t signed, and will proceed.
