Blue Mountains Features in New Picture Book by Anna McGregor
When three different-coloured mobs of kangaroos come together, they discover that they have more in common than they expect. This book is a vibrant and colourful celebration of diversity.
…where the Blue Mountains meet the sky, a mob of thirsty blue roos left their home in search of water.
They hopped through the towering blue gum forest. They hopped in the cool shadows of the bluestone cottages. They hopped past a busy bowerbird decorating his nest with anything blue.
They hopped and hopped,
but where would they stop?
When three different groups of kangaroos - red, blue and yellow - all come to the same watering hole, they aren't sure what to make of each other at first. But they soon discover that they aren't so different after all. As three groups become one, new colours appear, and soon the roos have created a beautiful rainbow!
On the surface, this is a fun, light-hearted story about the colour spectrum, but on deeper level it is a beautiful celebration of diversity.
Anna McGregor is a Melbourne-based writer and illustrator. Her background in graphic design is evident in her high impact compositions and her penchant for problem-solving. Her debut picture book, Colouroos, was partly inspired by her childhood in rural Australia.
"The idea to feature the Blue Mountains in Colouroos was an obvious one – and not just for its colourful name – the Blue Mountains are an Aussie icon and well known to kids across Australia," Anna said.
"In my illustration of the three sisters I referenced my memory of visiting the area with my family many years ago when we took in the view of the Three Sisters from the lofty heights of the cablecar. It was important to me to capture the awe and wonder I felt when viewing the ancient gorges below."
Colouroos is published by Lothian Children’s Books and will be available in April 2019
