Blue Mountains Family Business Ushers in New Era for Sydney Harbour Bridge
Marking one of the greatest achievements in the business’ 73-year history, Hammons Holdings has been awarded a 20-year contract to operate the internationally renowned Sydney Harbour Bridge climb attraction, with the contract to commence from 1 October, 2018.
The appointment, which followed a competitive tender process including national and international entities, will see Hammons Holdings inject new life into the Bridge with experiences that celebrate the icon’s history and make the experience more accessible and affordable to visitors into the future.
The appointment marks a major step forward for Hammons Holdings and Scenic World, led by Blue Mountains-based siblings Anthea and David Hammon who are both highly regarded in the Australian tourism sector for their proven excellence in providing world class visitor experiences.
“It’s a privilege to be entrusted with Bridge tourism operations. After building Scenic World into Australia’s most popular privately-owned attraction, we can apply this experience to increase economic revenue for NSW, while respecting the unique heritage and environmental values of the Bridge,” Hammons Holdings CEO David Hammon said.
“As third generation leaders in family business, Anthea and I have lived and breathed attractions from a young age. We’ve been surrounded by talented experts who have helped us to evolve the business and break new ground, and we’re looking forward to continuing that journey into the future.”
Scenic World Managing Director Anthea Hammon said the appointment was well aligned with Hammons Holdings’ long term vision to invest in the tourism sector and open up a corridor of iconic tourism experiences in Western Sydney, spanning the Bridge, Scenic World and Sydney Zoo in which Hammons Holdings is an early stage investor.
“It’s an honour to have the opportunity to showcase our skills in innovation and customer experience on a broader level, extending our efforts to showcase NSW to visitors from near and far,” she said.
Anthea also acknowledged the efforts of Scenic World staff – most of which are Blue Mountains locals – who were instrumental in securing the bid.
