Blue Mountains Edible Garden Trail 25th & 26th October

Visit an array of back and front yard farms, permaculture paradises, verdant verges, and abundant school, market, and community patches, all set in the unique Blue Mountains landscape.
Wentworth Falls grower, Susanne Rix, founded the Edible Garden Trail movement in 2018. “I was despairing about the use of pesticides and herbicides in home gardens when I started thinking, what if people discovered that organic edible gardens provide beauty as well as healthy food, and that food growers are saving money, reducing food miles, and contributing to a more sustainable planet?” Susanne says. “So I gathered some like-minded gardening friends and launched the first Edible Garden Trail.”
Since then, Edible Garden Trails have popped up across Australia to showcase the benefits of home grown produce.
Permaculture practitioners, Polona and Nathanael Hunter of Sunnyside Up Farm in Bullaburra, are enthusiastic Edible Garden Trail participants. “We get so much inspiration from the conversations we have with people on the Edible Garden Trail,” says Polona. “Seeing community connections and ideas blossom in our own backyard is so rewarding. It’s hands down the best annual local event on the calendar!”
The Blue Mountains Edible Garden Trail is the flagship environmental event of not-for-profit, member owned Blue Mountains Food Co-op, with sponsorship from Bendigo Bank Katoomba branch. The Co-op hopes to promote sustainability, community, and ease cost of living pressures by educating people on how to grow their own food. Proceeds from ticket sales are donated to participating school and community gardens.
