Blue Mountains City Council seeks community input for dog off-leash area upgrades

This initiative is funded with $200,000 by the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities program.
Whitton Park and Leura Oval are two of 14 dog off-leash areas in the Blue Mountains.
Both parks are set to undergo significant improvements to enhance the experience for dogs, their owners, and other park users.
The upgrades aim to foster spaces that are welcoming, accessible, safe, and beneficial for all users.
Options for both parks include:
- Installation of fencing
- Installation of a shelter/undercover area
- Additional seating
- Installation of linked accessible pathways
- Water stations with dog drinking bowls
- Additional signage
At Whitton Park only, a small dog fenced area is proposed.
Blue Mountains City Council Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “We are a pet-friendly Council and appreciate the numerous benefits of pet ownership for many in our community.
“That’s why we have dedicated a high number of areas throughout our towns and villages for owners to enjoy space for their dogs to run free and get extra exercise.
“We are looking forward to working with the community to enhance the dog off-leash areas at Whitton Park and Leura Oval, creating spaces that are safe, inclusive and enjoyable for our local dog owners, their pets, and the broader community.
“We value the insights and suggestions of all our residents. I encourage the community to have your say on these new upgrades.”
The community is encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions for each location through the dedicated online portals at here
