Golden Horizons in Hazelbrook is one of 16 neighbourhood parks set for an upgrade as part of the four year Neighbourhood Parks Program.
The Blue Mountains community is invited to have your say on the upgrades of three neighbourhood parks – including Medlow Park, Golden Horizons in Hazelbrook and Thomas Park in Blaxland.

Council has created an interactive survey where participants can choose what they would like in each park. The survey allows participants to prioritise what's important to them, within the funding budget. It’s designed to be fun and easy to use, including for children.

Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr. Mark Greenhill, said he hopes the community will enjoy participating in the consultation process.

“The interactive survey will help Council understand the wants and needs of the community and give participants a good understanding of the compromises needed when designing these types of spaces.

“There are many factors that go into the design of a park, such as accessibility, heritage and of course budget, but the input we receive from the community will play a genuine and meaningful role in creating a final design. Everyone’s opinion matters and will be heard.”

The $6.1 million Neighbourhood Parks Program, funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) program, is designed to improve access to nature and open spaces for all members of our community.

The Neighbourhood Parks program will allow Blue Mountains City Council to deliver improved facilities, amenities and equipment for 16 neighbourhood parks across our region, over four years.

A neighbourhood park is one that services local neighbourhoods and villages, within walking distance of homes. They are not highly developed, but still offer a place for residents and visitors to gather. Many also have unique features such as sculptures, mosaics, heritage play items, historic and cave-like grottos, bike path circuits and bush setting.

Community consultation is now underway for the 2024 parks:Medlow Park, Medlow Bath; Golden Horizons, Hazelbrook; and Thomas Park, East Blaxland.

Buttenshaw Park – Stage 2, in Faulconbridge is also part of this program, however this will be focused on a new junior bike track, based on previous community consultation. Council will release the exciting details of Buttenshaw Park Stage 2 separately, for feedback.
