Blue Mountains City Council encourages residents to electrify everything!
Blue Mountains City Council will promote electrification through their website and social media and will offer residents a downloadable plan and checklist, with actions they can take to make the switch to electricity. Electrification will also play a key role in the new Blue Mountains Community Net Zero Strategy which is currently in the planning stages.
Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said the Electrify Everything campaign is relevant to all members of the community and an important step in contributing to Australia’s transition towards a net-zero emissions future.
“This is another exciting opportunity for the Blue Mountains. We want to show that any step towards clean energy makes an impact. There are steps you can take as a renter or homeowner, a young family or a retired couple.”
“Some of the options we’re promoting include installing energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioning for heating, replacing instantaneous gas hot water with electric heat pumps, switching from gas to induction cooktops, or installing solar panels.”
Blue Mountains Chief Executive Officer Dr Rosemary Dillon said Blue Mountains City Council was proud to be part of the national campaign.
“Supporting and encouraging electrification uptake is in line with our goal of being a clean, sustainable City. Council will continue to seek initiatives that address climate change and save money, by moving towards energy efficient technologies,” Dr Dillon said.
The campaign is led by Merri-bek City Council, which developed the resources after conducting research into attitudes about and knowledge of all-electric homes.
You can find more information on transitioning to wholly electricity-powered households at here.
