Finalists from the 2022 Blue Mountains Local Business Awards.
Blue Mountains City Council is sponsoring the Sustainability Award in this year’s Local Business Awards.

The award aims to recognise the achievements of local businesses undertaking sustainable practices that contribute to a diverse, robust and environmentally friendly local economy.

Blue Mountains City Council Mayor Mark Greenhill said the award builds upon Council’s commitment to achieving an economically sustainable eco-city.

“Council has a long history of promoting sustainability and helping to protect the unique environment we call home,” Cr Greenhill said.

“Local businesses are at the heart of the Blue Mountains economy and community and supporting their development and sustainability is an important priority. We are proud to be both a Gold Sponsor of this year’s Local Business Awards and sponsor of the Sustainability Award.”

Blue Mountains City Council CEO Rosemary Dillion said, “Sustainability requires us to think creatively and to work together for a healthy environment, economy and community. Council celebrates businesses that contribute to this.”

Local businesses nominating for this award must demonstrate the integration of sustainability practices to their business planning, operations and marketing.

Criteria includes energy efficiency, water efficiency, waterway health, waste reduction and the use of recycled materials, partnering with community on environmental issues, sustainable transport initiatives, and the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Nominations close 5pm Wednesday, October 4.

The winner will be announced at the Local Business Awards presentation evening at Fairmont Resort, Leura on 15 November.
