Ready to launch – the Blackheath Rocket is back at Memorial Park, Blackheath.
The rocket has returned to Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park, providing a unique experience for children of the Blue Mountains and beyond.

Blue Mountains City Council, the Rotary Club of Blackheath and the community worked together to get the new replica rocket installed at Blackheath Memorial Park.

Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “I am pleased to see this project come to fruition in partnership with the Rotary Club of Blackheath to be enjoyed by residents and visitors young and old.”

The project, initiated by the Rotary Club of Blackheath past President Andrew Hancock, was completed with help from RKR Engineering Pty Ltd and Council. It now complies with the Australian Standards for play equipment.

Mr Hancock said: “The Rotary Club of Blackheath is very excited that the Blackheath Rocket has finally arrived.

“Rotary and Council have worked closely together on this project and it has been a very positive experience. Council have been very supportive in order to return the rocket to the park.”

The first rocket was built in the early 1960s by Blue Mountains City Council and was funded by The Rotary Club of Blackheath after John Yeaman, a Council engineer and past President of the Blackheath Rotary Club, sourced designs in America.

The official opening will be conducted by the Rotary Club of Blackheath at the Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park at 11.30am on Sunday, 25 March 2018.
