In the heart of Blackheath, Aqua Ignis Bathhouse has opened its doors, welcoming visitors and locals with an opportunity to embrace mindfulness and calm. It’s a space that honours relaxation and rejuvenation, allowing you to sink into the beauty of slow, considered wellness.

Crafted with elegance and minimalist decor, this thoughtfully designed space is an elemental connection between water, fire, and earth. Step inside and you instantly feel at ease as the eucalyptus-scented air fills the bath house, adorned with a gentle glow of timber and stone.

For owners Taku, Lee, Lucy and Jemima, this is more than a business; it’s a vision born from their past experiences with bathhouses and a connection to nature. In 2023, Lee and Taku, close friends and fathers, found themselves drawn to a shared vision: a space for ritual, renewal, and community. What started as casual conversations around sauna, cold therapy, and mineral bathing soon became something more defined. “It felt like it was happening to us,” Lee would later say. “Not something we chose, but something choosing us.”

It made sense to make the Blue Mountains home to build their dream. It’s a sanctuary that celebrates both the wild landscape and their philosophies of making wellness a priority.

“Aqua Ignis was born from a deep desire to create something nurturing, restorative and culturally meaningful for our community,” Taku explains. “As local families living in the Blue Mountains, we saw a need for more elevated spaces where people could slow down, reconnect with themselves and each other, and experience the healing power of elemental bathing.”

Each space is designed to connect you to nature’s rhythms, starting with the warmth of the magnesium bath, then immersing yourself in herbal steam room or hot rock sauna, before awaking the senses with a refreshing cold plunge. Complete your visit by unwinding in one of two relaxation spaces. Choose from the Yin space for peace, quiet and inwards reflection or the Yang for a more vibrant, communal and connecting space.

“We envisioned a uniquely Australian bathhouse that honoured both tradition and innovation,” Lee adds. “Aqua Ignis is our way of giving back to the place we love by offering a space that fosters wellbeing, contemplation, and connection.”

The stars aligned when Jem's brother-in-law, renowned designer and architect Siki Im, reached out, having long dreamt of designing a bathhouse and offered to join the project. The creative direction became clear, and the journey of the bathhouse became a labour of love and a valuable opportunity to engage and bond within the community.

“From the very beginning, the Blue Mountains community has been our foundation,” Jemima shares. “Friends, local tradespeople, Blackheathens and neighbours have all lent their skills, time and belief in the vision. It’s been a co-creation in the truest sense.”

Whether you’re seeking a moment of quiet or a full day of renewal, Aqua Ignis Bathhouse welcomes you to pause, breathe, and emerge renewed. Because here in Blackheath, wellness is more than a trend; it’s a way of life.

Lucy shares, “We want you to leave feeling cared for and completely restored. Aqua Ignis is a space to come home to yourself, a reset, a softening, a spark of vitality”.

“It’s a place where you can take a break from the outside world and reconnect with your breath, your body, and your inner rhythm.”

Explore both Yin and Yang flows to suit your wellness intention, energise in the sauna and cold plunge, or unwind in the steam room and Yin rest space. The magnesium bath offers a calming pause between moments of stimulation and stillness.

Located at 239 Great Western Highway, Aqua Ignis is open Tuesday to Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm, and Friday to Sunday from 8 am to 8 pm. Visitors are encouraged to disconnect from their devices and immerse themselves in the experience.
