Blackheath Golf Results - 11th July to 14th July 2018
Thursday 12th July was the Wendy Snelling Stroke Event sponsored by Joan Aitken. In still but cool conditions Karen Tolhurst (36) recorded nett 68 to win over Jenny Wilde (32) 70. (What could have been a great day in Tolhurst territory was wrecked by husband Steve going down to Karl Munchow in the Club’s Men’s Handicap Matchplay semi-final later in the day). The Women’s Nearest-the Pin on the 17th was won by Barbara Wall. Balls went to Karen, Jenny, Ro Perry, Barbara, Di Landsberg, Di Pease, Chris Rhind, Sandra Draper and Mandy McAlister.
Saturday 14th July saw Blackheath Golf Course sparkling in beautiful weather. The Single Stableford event sponsored by Peter Sweeney was well-attended. Marilyn Rowe (33) scored 36 points to fend off Rhonda Lonergan (22) by 3 points on countback. Nearest-the Pins went to Di Landsberg (2nd), Sandra Draper (5th), Louise Stevenson (7th), Ros Starkey (13th), Louise again (14th) and Rhonda (17th). Balls went to 30 OCB, adding Etsuko Saxton and Yvonne Murray to the long list of prize recipients.
Wednesday 27th June was our usual Tee Single Stableford and 2BBB. The Singles winner was Clive Home (44) 32. His appetite for personal glory grew from a delicious 2BBB win last week when he rode on partner Kevin Tooke’s form. Joe Landsberg (10) 38 came second OCB. Clive also claimed his second (in a row) 2BBB win, this time with Steve Tolhurst (10). They scored 51 points. Second in the 2BBB with 46 points were Joe Landsberg and Carlos Denoso (13). Balls went to 35 points. Nearest the Pins were won by Michael Mole at the 5th (650cm) and Trevor Thomas at the 17th (430cm).
Saturday 14th July was a Single Par Event sponsored by Bryan Cox. The visitors from Penrith and Moore Park were impressed by the course. Fittingly, one of our ground staff, Adam Gronlund (10) reaped the rewards by scoring 5-up. He was followed by Peter Bamford (14, 3-up) and Carlos Denoso (13, 2-up). Jack Walden, playing off scratch, won the Scratch Award with a tidy 2-under-par round. Balls went to square OCB. The Nearest-the-Pin winner on the second (sponsor: Blue Mountains Plantation Shutters & Cabinet Making) was Darrell Gawthorpe (1cm, yes, 1cm, poor Darrell). On the 5th (Office Choice/LEADING EDGE COMPUTERS Blue Mountains) was B. Scanlan (680cm). On the 7th (SiLLYMiLLY Kid’s Clothing) Ian Robinson got to 144cm. On the 13th (Blue Mountains Escapes) Graham Dowdell (204cm) won. On the 14th it was Matthew Broug (121cm). On the 17th, Ben Cameron’s hole, Brad Pidgeon hit it to 594cm, good enough for the NTP award, but not close enough for the Pro-Pin.
On Fridays our 9-hole Single Stableford Comp that runs all day is gathering momentum. This comp is a winner-takes-all with an entrance fee of $5 (plus green fees which are $0 for members). To play, all you need is a marker. Our Pro-Shop can organise you into a game.
