Council is inviting local young people to apply for the 2026 Youth Council, an exciting opportunity to be a voice for their community and peers.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill urged young Blue Mountains locals to get involved.

“Youth Council is a unique opportunity for young people to raise their voices in a world that too often asks them to be quiet,” Cr Greenhill said.

“Young people are bright, innovative and they care deeply about their communities. Youth Council gives them an opportunity to channel their insight and energy to benefit the community and fellow youth.

“What’s really special is that the key focus for Youth Council is determined by its members each year, which means these brilliant young leaders from our community are given the agency to decide what matters most for them now and into the future.

“If you are aged 12 – 18 years and want to be a force for positive change in your community, then Youth Council needs you and I urge you to apply.”

The Blue Mountains Youth Council is a leadership and advocacy program open to 20 members. The Youth Council meets monthly to raise issues, participate in consultations and develop projects that benefit the local environment and community. Successful applicants remain members for two years after which they can reapply if they wish.

The Youth Council is a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of local government and advocacy, while also being a standout feature on your resume.

Previous Youth Councils focused on the environment and climate change and creating new opportunities for youth and families to connect.

No experience is required. If you are between 12 – 18 years old, live or study in the Blue Mountains and want to make a difference, join the Blue Mountains Youth Council.

Nominations are open from Monday 13 October until Sunday 30 November. Find out more about Youth Council and apply online: here
