Adventure Racing in the Blue Mountains - An epic weekend of adventure in the bush!
What's Adventure Racing?
Adventure Racing is like a triathlon that's gone off-road. Competitors in teams of two must use a map and compass to navigate around the course, collecting checkpoints along the way. Teams will swap between trail running, mountain biking, and kayaking while on the course, race times can vary from 3-6 hours depending on the team's navigation skills and choices! Competitors must stick together; adventure racing is a team event, not a relay. Adventure Racing takes competitors through stunning bushland terrain. The Blue Mountains course is no exception, with a purpose-built single track for the mountain biking sections, and kayaking on the Nepean River, this is one event that will not disappoint.
2022 marks the twelfth year of the Blue Mountains Max Adventure Race, the race weekend is expected to bring more than 800 families and racers into the local area with races on both days.
It's going to be a very full weekend of adventure and family fun. There are various race options to suit all abilities and ages. The Novice Course is ideal for those new to the sport. It's a short, fast, and fun course consisting of 5-15 km mountain biking, 3-5 km trail running, and 1-2 km of kayaking. The Classic Course is for teams looking for a longer challenge and includes around 15-20 km of mountain biking, 5-10 km of trail running, and 2-4 km of kayaking.
Kayaks, paddles, and PFDs are all provided. All you need is a sense of adventure!
"Adventure Racing turns running and mountain biking, usually solo pursuits, into a team sport, I always know I'm signing up for a great day of fun when racing" -Sam 2021 Blue Mountains Adventure Race competitor.
