A safer and more accessible Leura Cascades on show in draft concept designs
Council is creating a plan for the Leura Cascades precinct to guide future upgrades that are needed to improve safety, access, and the visitor experience for everyone.
As part of the precinct planning process, draft concept designs for Leura Cascades are now available for community review and feedback.
The draft concept design package includes:
- An overview of the precinct planning process.
- An overview of previous community feedback and priorities.
- A summary of how the draft concept designs respond to the community’s feedback.

Following the review period, all feedback will be considered before a final concept design is developed for adoption by Council later this year.
Blue Mountains City Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Will Langevad, said: “Meeting with the community earlier this year to discuss the opportunities and issues relating to the Leura Cascades Precinct was instrumental to the development of these concept designs.
“This feedback, as well as ongoing site investigations and planning, have informed the development of the draft concept designs.
“The designs are the next step in delivering a holistic plan for the Leura Cascades precinct. They show how future upgrades can be delivered – in a way that both respects the natural environment while also providing necessary infrastructure and accessibility improvements.
“Of equal concern is how we protect the cultural and historical values of the site, meet current and future demand, improve the experience of both residents and visitors, meet current safety and accessibility standards, improve residential amenity, and support local economic development.
“Currently, Council has secured funding to deliver three significant parts of the precinct plan – new accessible amenities, walking track upgrades and precinct lighting.
“I encourage anyone with an interest in this beautiful precinct to review the draft concept designs, read through the information that has helped to guide their development, and provide feedback for further consideration.”
Also occurring within the Leura Cascades precinct currently is the replacement of the damaged culvert underneath Cliff Drive. Any works associated with the precinct plan for Leura Cascades will occur after the damaged culvert has been replaced in the first half of 2024.
