5th Birthday Celebrations at Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and Katoomba Library
This landmark building has become a pivotal community space in Katoomba’s daily life, welcoming locals and tourists alike to its Gallery, World Heritage Interpretive Centre and state-of-the-art Katoomba Library.
Blue Mountains Mayor Cr Mark Greenhill said: “This facility is respected by our community and acknowledged nationally and internationally as the pre-eminent arts and cultural institution of the Blue Mountains region. I invite you all to help us celebrate this important milestone.”
A weekend of celebrations kicks-off with the Library’s Poetry Under the Stars on Friday, 17 November at 6.30pm. This annual event is a feast for the senses. Bring a cushion and picnic and prepare to be dazzled as the sun sets and the stars are revealed.
Award-winning Australian poets including Vanessa Kirkpatrick, Zoe Harrington, David Brooks and Greg North will entertain and there’ll also be live music from Oliver Morley-Sattler.
Birthday celebrations continue on Saturday 18 November with a FREE community event. The Centre will host exhibitions, talks and activities, as well as face painting, bands and a magic show for the kids.
Enjoy free entry to the exhibition David Hockney: Words & Pictures as well as a talk with John Hockney, and a screening of the film David Hockney: The Bigger Picture. Catch the ‘Picture Gallery’ exhibition of renowned Australian children’s illustrators, or take time to experience the amazing sensory experience about our very own World Heritage Area.
Inside Katoomba Library there will be literary-themed mocktails served and a very special sensory play and craft area presented by Blue Mountains Family Day Care.
Come and celebrate Katoomba’s beautiful, purpose-built Library that welcomes over 530 customers a day, issues over 15,300 loans a month and boasts some of the best views from any building in the Mountains.
