2017 LJ Hooker Reg Cowden Memorial Sports Star of The Year Awards Presentation

The Annual Reg Cowden Awards were presented recently at an afternoon tea at the Lithgow City Council Chambers on Wednesday 28 March 2018.

Fifty people were in attendance at the awards culminating in the announcement of the Junior and Senior annual award winners.

This year Council held an afternoon tea in the Council Chambers for the winners and their families to enjoy, which was a more relaxed atmosphere than previous years and it helped the number of attendees grow.

Councillor Joe Smith was delighted to announce the winners of the awards being;

2017 Encouragement Award – Emerson Banning for Tennis and Lucy Green for Tennis.

2017 Junior Team Achievement of the Year – Lithgow High School U15 Girls Basketball Team.

2017 Senior Team Achievement of the Year – Lithgow Open Women’s Hockey Team.

2017 Laurie Muir Official of the Year – Richard Marjoram for Basketball.

2017 Bunny Abbott Volunteer of the Year – Cheryl Rutherford for Hockey.

2017 Mac Scott Memorial Trophy for All Round Sportsmanship –Richard Forbes for Table Tennis, Lawn Bowls, Pentanque, Darts and Archery.

2017 Whitty Perpetual Trophy – Ryan O’Donnell for Boxing.

2017 International Sports Star of the Year Trophy – Holly Beecroft for Futsal.

2017 Eric Arnold Memorial Trophy – Ryan Wells for Athletics.

2017 Reg Cowden Memorial Junior Sports Star of the Year – Emily Watts for Running & Cycling.

2017 Reg Cowden Memorial Senior Sports Star of the Year – Roxsanne Van Veen for Cricket.

Lithgow City Council would like to congratulate all the award winners and thank the major sponsors LJ Hooker Lithgow, The Reg Cowden Memorial Trust and a special thankyou to the presenters Mayor – Cr Stephen Lesslie, Cr Wayne McAndrew, Cr Joe Smith, Cr Cassandra Coleman, Cr Maree Statham, Cr Ray Thompson, Cr Darryl Goodwin, Danny and Robyn Whitty, The Scott Family, and Howard Fisher from the Lithgow Workmen’s Club.
