$2 Million for Blaxland Commuter Parking Upgrade
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development Anthony Albanese today confirmed that if elected, a Labor Government would in its first budget lock in $2 million funding for an expansion of commuter parking at Blaxland train station.
Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said "Any commuter knows Blaxland Commuter Carpark desperately needs an upgrade.
"Not just for the benefit of commuters, but all the residents who live near the station.
"Since I started catching trains from Blaxland Station 25 years ago, the volume has grown and now more than 700 commuters use it each day, yet it does not have an adequate parking facility to cope with that many cars or people.
"This is something the community has been crying out for and I'm delighted that if elected, a Shorten Labor Government will provide the necessary funding to make it a reality."
Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle MP and Blue Mountains Mayor, Mark Greenhill welcomed the announcement.
Ms Doyle said "Labor wants to make it easier for more people to get out of their cars and on to public transport and what Susan and I have been hearing year-in and year-out from residents in Blaxland, is that they desperately need more parking capacity near the station to cope with the increased patronage on our rail network."
Mayor Mark Greenhill said Blaxland is very much a commuter village. "This announcement will make a meaningful difference to many local workers.
"Susan Templeman has shown that she understands the needs of our community. "This project will be deeply appreciated and I offer her my full support."
