$1 million to upgrade the Blaxland Community Centre for disabled use

The property is owned by the NSW Government and currently used by NDIS provider DARE, for its disabled clients.
Liberal Candidate for Macquarie, Sarah Richards, has been a strong advocate for this project, and welcomed the commitment from the Liberals.
“The DARE team approached me envisioning a complete remodel of the premises, with new kitchen and breakaway areas for arts and crafts, card games, ping-pong, group sharing and cooking lessons,” Ms Richards said.
“Outside they want to create a garden and an opportunity to participate in activities like wheelchair trampolining.”
“I successful campaigned for a new headspace facility at Katoomba, and an inclusive playground at Blaxland, and I am honoured to take up the cause on behalf of DARE’s disabled clients.
“I invited the federal Minister for the NDIS, Linda Reynolds here to demonstrate the potential for this facility and ran a petition in the local community.
“These funds will go a long way to improving the lives of the disabled clients that enjoy outings here.”
“The building requires more than just a lick of paint. There will be new ramps and toilet facilities to make it a more comfortable destination.”
The newly revitalised recreation centre would operate in tandem with the Blaxland inclusive playground, directly opposite, which recently opened to the public.
CEO of DARE Disability Services, Andrew Daly, said the funds will create a world class facility providing many new opportunities for their clients.
“My thanks to Sarah and her team who fought for this funding,” said Daly. “It will change the lives of so many people with disabilities in the Blue Mountains.
Only the Liberals have a plan to deliver a strong economy and a stronger future for the residents of Macquarie.
