Hargraves Lookout, Blackheath

Shipley

From Sydney:
118kms   ·  118 mins by car
Quick Stats:
  ·  1,025m elevation

Part of Blackheath, the Shipley plateau is a small township overlooking Megalong Valley. To get to Shipley, cross the railway line at the lights at Blackheath and head towards Megalong Valley. Instead of taking the left hand turn into the valley, continue straight on, into Shipley Road.

Shipley Road takes you to Shipley Plateau where you will find magnificent lookouts and an apple orchard.

A fork in the road will take you to either Hargraves Lookout overlooking the beautiful Megalong Valley or Mount Blackheath Lookout which offers views of the Kanimbla Valley.

Hargraves Lookout features a shelter and BBQ firepit. The large flat top lookout is a great place to picnic. There is a small lookout immediately below the main lookout and there is also a short walk to the end of the point, allowing you uninterrupted views of Megalong Valley. This walk is not fenced and proceeds along a narrow bluff, so care should be taken and it is not recommended for small children.

Mount Blackheath Lookout features a hang gliding ramp, so if you are lucky you might chance a view of gliders launching from this point.

Shipley is a great place to unwind for a picnic.
