Bygone Beautys Treasured Teapot Museum & Tearooms
Quality is Timeless
Bygone Beautys Treasured Teapot Museum & Tearooms is nestled in the picturesque village of Leura within the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and houses the world’s largest private collection of teawares. There are more than 5,500 teapots in the collection, spanning five centuries and including teapots from all over the world, mostly collected within Australia.
Enjoy our selection of teas and partake of lunch or light refreshments served with ‘olde-worlde’ charm on fine bone china.
Bygone Beautys Treasured Teapot Museum & Tearooms
The teapot collection came into existence in 1974, when Ronald Hooper, a previous joint owner of Bygone Beautys came across a geisha girl teapot which was made in England in the 19th Century. Like any piece of decorative art, this teapot sat proudly on Ronald’s dresser and before long was accompanied by many more teapots.
In 1992, Ronald Hooper and Maurice Cooper OAM, the current proprietor, joined forces to create Bygone Beautys. Maurice quickly matched Ronald’s collection to give equality to the partnership.
The Treasured Teapot Museum reflects and preserves the diversity of Australian tea drinking culture. Everywhere you look you will see teapots, old and new, rare or collectable from Australia, America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Teapots are made in a range of materials and are all on display including china, silver, silver plate, pottery, fine porcelain, cast iron, bakelite, decoupage and textiles.
MUSEUM ADMISSION of $5.50 per person is redeemed with an equivalent purchase in the tearooms or retail area.
Bygone Beautys is often referred to as an emporium or “Aladdin’s Cave” as it is stocked floor to ceiling with antiques and collectables, jewellery and unique contemporary gifts and cards. Waiting to be discovered is that perfect gift for a friend or family member.
Major Renovations & Extensions Complete
Between February 2014 and August 2015, Bygone Beautys undertook major extensions and renovations including a new museum space featuring more than 5,500 teapots (some debuting publically for the first time), function room, formal tearoom and retail area specialising in all things tea-related. The revamp has been steeped to perfection and is now ready to savour.
Devonshire Tea
Devonshire Tea is our specialty and makes for an ideal morning or afternoon tea. Enjoy two homemade scones with freshly whipped cream and strawberry jam, served with your choice of house tea or coffee.
Traditional High Tea
Reminiscent of decades past, the waiter in a top hat and tails will serve this decadent delight on fine bone china with quality cotton afternoon tea serviettes. Presented on a three-tier cake stand, this indulgent culinary interlude features finely rolled sandwiches (as done at the Ritz Hotel London), an assortment of home-made cakes and biscuits, topped off with homemade baby scones, freshly whipped cream and strawberry jam.
Your choice of house tea or coffee is served in shimmering silver pots, which is delivered to your table on an afternoon tea tray-mobile with a degree of pomp and circumstance. An experience reminiscent of times passed when life was more leisurely. The Traditional High Tea does make for a light luncheon and is a delightful experience to share with family or friends.
Traditional High Tea Supreme
Indulge in even more decadence with the Traditional High Tea Supreme. In addition to the above, enjoy complimentary Bubbly in crystal flutes upon arrival with mini quiches, sausage rolls and vegetarian roulades.
