Blue Mts National Trust 'Transit of Venus' walk

Date:Sat 26 May 2012
Time:10:00 - 14:30
Cost:$25 for Members, $30 for Non-Members
The 'Transit of Venus' will be clearly seen from Woodford on June 6, 2012. In 1874, Woodford House, owned by Alfred Fairfax was one of the four sites in NSW selected for astronomers to observe this event. You can join the Blue Mountains Branch of the National Trust in a walk of the historic track, visiting three falls, Edith, Mabel and Hazel, the first two of which were named after Fairfax’s daughters. Possible extension to Paradise Pool for fitter walkers.

Enjoy the Walk! Hear a short talk on the history of Woodford (including details of the astronomers and their preparations for the 1874 Transit).

Finish with a hearty barbecue lunch at the Woodford Academy ( formerly Woodford House).

Meet at Woodford Academy, Great Western Highway, Woodford.
