Winmalee
Winmalee
Winmalee was formerly known as North Springwood. The town received its new name in 1972 following a competition. The name is aboriginal for ‘in a northerly direction’. Winmalee is one of the fastest growing towns in the Blue Mountains.
The town has its own high school, primary school, shopping centre and churches making it fully self sufficient.
Discover the Winmalee Village Centre located in the heart of Winmalee and only 5 minutes from Springwood. The centre features over 21 specialty retailers including Australia Post, Target Country, and a a state-of-the-art Coles Supermarket. Conveniently located on Whitecross Road, off Hawkesbury Road (opposite Winmalee Public School) with parking for over 250 vehicles plus 2 ATMs, visitors and locals can relax and enjoy the fresh food on offer, or coffee with friends either indoors or within the outdoor seating area.
The town is also well serviced by local transport as many residents commute from Winmalee to Sydney on a daily basis.
Sports and Activities
Summerhayes Park serves as the local sporting ground and is located off Hawkesbury Road. The park is an ideal location for soccer, netball and tennis and hosts many local sporting activities.
Winmalee also features a Christian conference centre not far from Winmalee Primary School down Leslie Street.
One of the newest high schools in the Blue Mountains is Winmalee High. The school was built to cater for the over population of Springwood High School in the late 1980’s reflecting the increase in population of the Winmalee area.
Mountain Bike riders and walking enthusiasts can also enjoy the circular track situated at the end of Whitecross Road.
