If you were asked to name a famous building within the Blue Mountains, your answer would most likely be the ‘Hydro Majestic Hotel’. The hotel’s dining area and coffee lounge offers one of the most spectacular views in Australia overlooking the magnificent Megalong Valley. Visitors are welcome to call in for coffee and take in the grandeur of the building. In winter, cosy log fires offer a welcome escape from the crisp mountain air.

The hotel is a combination of three grand properties. The first being a property developed by Edward Hargraves who received a grant from the government following his discovery of gold to the west of the Blue Mountains in 1851. The second was Belgravia Hotel which was built in 1891 next door to the ‘Hargraves House’ and the third was ‘Tuckers House’.

Mark Foy, a Sydney businessman saw a vision for the future of these three buildings. He purchased the properties and combined the three into the ‘Hydo Majestic Hotel’ to be used as a health resort. In 1922 the hotel was destroyed by fire but was soon rebuilt. The Hydro Majestic became a base hospital for a short time during Word War II used by the American Army for those wounded in the Pacific Islands.

Behind the Hydro you will find some walking tracks including Blackheath Glen Nature Trail. You can also walk to Tuckers Lookout overlooking the Megalong Valley.

Also located in Medlow Bath and privately owned is one of the best preserved Gatekeepers cottage in the Blue Mountains.

Situated on the north side of the railway line is The Old Post Office at Medlow Bath. Now anantique shop and book store, the Old Post Office is a great place to stop for coffee or a light meal.

Medlow Bath is home to the Blue Mountains Herb Fest held in February, and the Cottage Garden Fair held in October.

The Katoomba Airfield is actually located at Medlow Bath down Rutland/Grand Canyon Road. Blue Mountains Airlines offer scenic flights, providing one of the most unforgettable exhilarating experiences available in the Mountains. Also down Rutland Road you will find some fabulous walking tracks which take you to Point Pilcher which offers views of Govetts Gorge.
